J Street Marks Israeli Independence Day

April 29, 2009

As Israel celebrates Yom Ha’atzmaut, its Independence Day, J Street released the following statement:

“Today, we proudly join President Peres, Prime Minister Netanyahu, and the Israeli people in marking the 61st anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel and in honoring the country’s founders.

“After 61 years, there is so much to
celebrate in the country’s myriad accomplishments and there is also
much that remains to be done to fulfill the vision of Israel’s founders
of a secure, Jewish, and democratic homeland.

“As we celebrate this remarkable day, we hope that the 62nd
year of Israel’s existence will be remembered as the time when Israelis
completed the task of building their state by finalizing its borders
and reaching a resolution of the long-standing conflicts with its
neighbors. Only a concerted effort to resolve these conflicts
peacefully and diplomatically – backed by strong US leadership – will
fully achieve the vision of true peace and prosperity set out by
Israel’s founders 61 years ago.”

Join J Street in Washington, DC and NYC this Thursday, April 30th, as we celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut.
